In our Introducing blogs, we aim to bring you some more detailed information about the huge line-up of talented motorcycle riders and race drivers that are currently supported with EBC Brakes products around the globe.
First up, it’s local lad Lewis Bethell – the 14-year-old motocross maestro from just down the road from EBC’s Global Headquarters in Northampton, that’s already showing incredible promise out on the track even at such a young age.
Competing in the Coventry Junior MotoX series, Lewis provides an insight into his competitive history so far in his own words…
“Hi, my name is Lewis Bethell and my passion is motocross! I am 14 years old and live in Northampton. I have always loved motocross, but I did not get my first bike until June 2016 when I learnt to ride on a KTM SX65 – firstly in a field with my dad and my uncle. It was not long until I became more confident and my first track experience was with a coach called Rikki Priest near Droitwich, Worcestershire in September 2016.
“It quickly became apparent that motocross was my first-choice sport, and I started riding at a track called VIP Motocross near Crick, Northamptonshire where my confidence grew. In 2017, I moved to a small-wheel Husqvarna 85 and after constant practice did my first race in September 2017 with Coventry Junior MotoX [CJMX] at a track call Arncott, near Bicester, finishing 11th out of 17 riders.
“I continued to dedicate my time to motocross and in 2018 I moved up a class to the big-wheel 85s, which is the group I currently race in, riding a Husqvarna TC 85. The 2019 season started well, being 3rd in the CJMX championship until I had a ‘big’ accident practicing and broke my collar bone which had to be plated and kept me out for most of the season. I did return for the last round of the season, coincidentally at Arncott again, and finished with three second places and also a third place, to take second place overall.
“My hard work over the last few months has been rewarded with additional sponsorships from Pro-Green MX, Motoloko and, most recently, recruited to the VIP Motocross Squad receiving full sponsorship and support from them for the coming year. The winter has seen some really tough practice in all weathers preparing for 2020, during which I will be racing in the Bridgestone British Masters Championship, the CJMX championship and, in October, the famous Weston Beach Race.
“I really appreciate the ongoing support from EBC Brakes; everything helps in this sport! I am really looking forward to the season kicking off with the first round of the British Masters at Culham MX Park on the 7th and 8th March and hopefully bringing some trophies home!”
