Taka Inufusa’s 258bhp ‘Stage 1+’ hot hatch now has the stopping power to match the impressive performance

Having run the Official Mk8 Fiesta ST Owners’ Group for the last few years, Telford-based Taka Inufusa certainly knows a thing or two about the latest Ford Fiesta ST model.

One of the main talking points of this latest-generation version of Ford’s compact pocket rocket is how the brakes can soon start to feel like the weak link of the car, especially when you spend time improving the performance under the bonnet.

Taka’s car has received a raft of engine, chassis and styling upgrades to make it a true super saloon-scarer in its own right (see the car’s full spec list below). Now boasting 258bhp and over 440nm of torque with a ‘Stage 1+’ remap and plenty of choice hardware upgrades, it didn’t take long for the proud owner to realise that a brake upgrade was the essential next step.

He soon opted for one of EBC Brakes Racing’s Apollo Balanced Big Brake Kits. As the name suggests, this package not only supplies EBC’s stunning Apollo-series four-piston calipers, two-piece floating discs and high-performance pads for the front axle, but also includes the components required to fully upgrade the rear axle, providing a ‘balanced’ improvement across the entire vehicle.

It not only improves stopping power but also sheds unsprung weight, further assisting with Taka’s spirited driving activities.

Taka explains below in his own words his experiences with the kit so far.

“With the engine modifications I’ve performed, I didn’t ever feel the need for a bigger car with more power. My Mk8 ST is relentlessly quick on the B-roads with a pace that keeps my friends in check, in the likes of M3s, F-Types and S5s.

“One significant failure of the OEM design from Ford on this car was the lack of braking power. I quickly overheated the discs and pads on track at Ford Fair 2019. The same happened on my 2,000+ mile trip to the Stelvio Pass and back, shortly after Ford Fair (to the point that I had to stop and leave the brakes to cool during the descent of the Stelvio Pass).”

“Once I upgraded to EBC’s 330mm big brake kit, including the braided hoses and Yellowstuff pads, the car stopped like it had hit a brick wall every single time without fail. I loved the quality and finish of the BBK and it certainly looked the part on my modified Mk8.

“The car has now sadly been sold to a new owner, but it’s been a hell of a journey.”
