Michael Price’s 680bhp BMW is driven hard on the road, with Yellowstuff providing the perfect braking upgrade

The F10-shape BMW M5 is undoubtedly one of the most impressive high-performance cars on the road right now, effortlessly keeping up with exotic supercars despite its four-door practicality and substantial kerb weight.

It’s this combination of high performance and weight that puts a particularly strong demand on the car’s braking system, meaning it’s no surprise that many M5 owners seek to upgrade their brake pads as one of their first modifications. That was the exact thought process of Michael Price here, who uses his modified 2014 example regularly for spirited road drives and was looking for a little more performance, predictability and reliability from his stopping power. Eventually opting for EBC’s Yellowstuff compound on all four corners.

The car in question is a 2014 F10 M5, running 680bhp thanks to a custom remap and rear silencer modification.

I fitted EBC’s Yellowstuff pads all round on stock discs. It’s driven fairly hard when everything is up to temperature, mainly on cross-country road journeys (no track days). Yellowstuff is a huge improvement over the OE items – amazing pads that are a massive improvement over stock. They just need a few degrees putting into them for the bite to feel its best, then they’re fantastic.
