Matty Bradley is no stranger to a sports car, having owned countless examples over the last decade which he’s proceeded in driving hard both on road and track.
It’s no surprise to hear, then, that this is one car owner who knows only too well the importance of a good brake setup to truly get the most out of their pride and joy.
In recent years, Matty has used EBC’s Yellowstuff pads and BSD slotted discs on his modified FN2 Honda Civic Type R, and gives us his verdict on how the components fare below…
“Over the past 10 years, I’ve had many quick road and track cars, all of which were used as they were intended to be and meaning there was a big demand on their braking systems.
“As a result, the first job whenever I buy a new car is to upgrade its discs and pads. I have tried numerous brands over the years and have usually been disappointed with either silly high wear rates or constantly changing discs due to warping or cracking. But a few years ago someone suggested I try EBC, and since then, I haven’t bought anything else.
“I currently have a 2011 Honda Civic Type R running 245bhp, and the brakes as standard are pretty shocking. A few days after buying it, I swapped to EBC’s Yellowstuff pads and BSD discs, as well as EBC’s fluid and braided lines.
“I was immediately impressed, and stuck to the recommended bedding-in cycle as always. Within 500 miles, they were biting really hard and can now handle the heat much better, being able to perform much longer sessions between stopping on track days. I even got them to the point of glowing bright orange, and even at this point felt very minimal fade.
“Also, the life of these discs and pads is much better than with other brands I have used. Even my dad who in his 60s is running Greenstuff pads in his Ford Focus, and refuses to buy anything else now. Highly recommended.”
