Track day regular, Sam Elliott, was recently on the lookout for a high-performing brake pad to install in both his F82 BMW M4 and BMW M140i sports cars.
Both of these impressive vehicles are taken on track regularly by their owner, making it unsurprising that he eventually decided to opt for EBC Brakes Racing’s recently launched RP-X™ track/race pad.
RP-X™ possesses an extremely high friction level of 0.55mu between 0 – 850°C and achieves 100% brake effect from cold. “Performance: great bite and very confidence inspiring; the pedal didn’t go long even after extended track sessions. I was running on worn-out Nankang AR-1 tyres with the M4 and was consistently lapping in the low 53-second range at Brands Hatch (Indy). It should break into the 52s with fresh tyres. The braking system is standard other than the pads. Slick tyres should work fine with this setup which is testament to how well the pads work.
“Cost: cannot be beaten on cost with the current ‘try two sets of pads for the price of one’ deal from EBC Brakes Direct; all other options are at least 50% more expensive.
“Life: about two track days, similar to other brands of pad I’ve used. Braking power remains consistent as they wear out. No chunking or pieces of pad have broken off.
“With the combination of cost, quality, performance and life all very good, I would highly recommend RP-X™.”
