Another great result for Simon Reid as he completed Round 9 of the Irish Championship at St Angelo Airfield Circuit. Here’s Simon’s report:

Another successful weekend for the team and I. Moving forward with the recent changes to the bike has once again proven what we are capable of, especially with my shoulder nearly back at 100%.

In the Supersport Cup – 2 race wins plus another track lap record.

In the Supersport Pro – a 2nd and a 5th place finish; a new personal best result in that class definitely made for a fantastic weekend.

Saturday morning got off to a great start, topping the tables in the Supersport Cup qualifying, which left me 3rd on the grid for the Pro race.

My starts for the second half of the season have been strong and getting away first in both races gave me a fantastic chance.

In race 1 I had an early lead, which I maintained for a couple of laps. I was then passed hard on the brakes going into the second to last turn. It was a good point following the reigning Irish champion which I learnt a few things from and comfortably maintained the gap. This made me stronger as I could see where I was quicker and where he was making time on me.

The leader and I pulled a gap of 3 or 4 seconds on the rest of the field and it came down to the last lap. With back markers coming into play it was very close, being tipped across the line in a close 2nd. This is my best result in Supersport Pro all year which I’m delighted with, especially being so close to the leader.

In result I won the Supersport cup race 22 seconds clear of 2nd place finisher which was more points on the board.

Race 2 got off to a similar start; I got an early lead but then was passed. I knew I wasn’t going to win the race early on by re-passing. My plan was to try and stay close and be there on the last lap. At the half way point of the race a small mistake meant I ran wide on the second last corner, which had been catching a lot of people out during the day. This put me out of podium contention and I rode a smart last few laps to bring it home in 5th place overall in the pro, meaning I still won the Supersport Cup race well clear of 2nd place.

This brings my tally of race wins this year to 10, and a new personal best result in the Pro: I’m getting closer and closer to that Pro Race win! As I said recent setup changes have made the world of difference and I can’t wait for the final round of the year at the Sunflower Trophy Races.

It has been a great learning curve during my first year in Supersport. I have to thank all of my sponsors and everyone who has supported me. Hopefully I can end the year on a high; I’m already setting new goals for 2019.
