CODE Racing’s women-only ‘Racing for Boobs’ desert contest raises money each year for breast cancer patients

Each year, women from all over the world converge in the Sonoma Desert, Mexico, to participate in ‘Racing for Boobs’ – an annual desert motocross competition that raises money for breast cancer patients, hosted by CODE Racing out of Mexicali, Baja California.

All registration fees are donated directly to the Mujeres que Viven Foundation. Some of the programs this charity provides include assisting patients and their families through therapy and offering professional and physiological seminars. In addition, it donates oncological medical supplies such as bras, lymphedema sleeves, wigs and hats.

This year, EBC Brakes’ initiative was to provide stellar support in assisting with the competitive action, both as an exclusive sponsor and also by providing a charitable donation towards this worthy cause.

In addition, EBC Brakes supplied its performance braking products to two of the female race teams, both led by Zen Pro Racing’s Mo Martinez, thus providing them with that leading edge which resulted with a victorious overall class win for one of the teams.

Just two days prior to race day, a tropical storm rolled in and hit the region hard. Dumping huge amounts of rainfall with flash floods wreaking havoc on the course, it created large ruts, huge ponds and exposed rocks in numerous locations. On the flipside, it helped to pack the loose sandy portions of the track, resulting in a smoother surface in areas that made way for faster sections along the now-challenging course.

With high hopes that the race coordinators would not cancel the event, most sections thankfully dried up on race day, and the event was given a green light to proceed.

Zen Pro Racing’s class-leading #83 team consisted of a group of proud mothers, while the second team unfortunately received a DNF due to an injury from one of the teammates who crashed and was taken to the hospital by on-site paramedics. Thankfully, she is making a speedy recovery.

Another EBC-sponsored racer that took part was Krystal Carrillo from Yuma, Arizona, who received a first-place win in the Pro Motocross category, battling her way to the top throughout the race to clinch the impressive win.
