Leon and the Geo E Davies Smirk Racing team made their annual Scottish pilgrimage to the picturesque yet technical circuit of Knockhill in Fife. Leon was hoping to continue the recent form of the last few rounds and bag some points by scoring finishes in the two races to be held over the weekend in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship.
Straight off in the first free practice, Leon was on the pace and was confidently setting fast laps, finishing in 6th position, making a good start to the weekend. Despite going even quicker in the second free practice Leon remained in 6th place, however he was feeling ultra-competitive and ready for the sole qualifying session to be held on Saturday morning.
Leon and the team made a mistake during qualifying, but he nevertheless rode faster than in the practices. He was disappointed to finish in 15th for the first race of the weekend.
Starting race one, the pack tumbled into the first corner and after the dust had settled Leon fell out of the top 20 after being pushed out. The laps came thick and fast on the short Scottish track and Leon fought back to finish just inside the points in 14th.
Race two saw Leon starting from 10th and at the first corner melee he found himself pushed out yet again. Another sterling fightback ensued and Leon had just managed to tag onto the top 10 group when the red flag was shown, bringing the race to an early conclusion.
Speaking after the race Leon said that it had been another good weekend for himself and the team, and that they were a little disappointed with the qualifying result when they knew they could have done better. The races had been hard due to the nature of the Knockhill track, but another two points-finishes were a positive result for all, and showed that the pace was there for future rounds.
