The third round of the 2019 British Superbike Championship, held on 24–26 May, saw Racing Team’s twin-brother riders – Kurt and Matt Wigley – take to their local circuit of Donington Park.

Kurt and Matt use EBC’s X Series floating front discs and GPFAX race pads on their motorcycles.

Free Practice 1

Kurt went out getting used to the newly-rebuilt Racing Team’s Yamaha R6. He had several pit stops during the session to iron out any issues, eventually managing to secure a P8 finish. Matt had a strong beginning to the weekend, with a P11 finish after developing the bike setup to move forward.

Free Practice 2

Both riders made many changes to the setup of the bikes for FP2. On the final lap of the session, Matt pulled together his fastest ride of the session, securing P13. Kurt had an excellent session and saw him jump to P3. As it came to an end, Kurt crossed the line for the final time to secure P5.

Saturday Qualifying

Kurt made his way up to the top five; only a stone’s throw from the front-runners. However, he was demoted to P9 due to not improving his qualifying time. Matt had three separate stints on track during the session, each one setting a faster lap time. He pushed on to secure P13.

Race 1

On Saturday afternoon, the rain began to arrive as the brothers lined up on the grid for the first race. Kurt lost a few positions entering turn one and Matt successfully managed to take advantage of the sprint from the line. Both Kurt and Matt said there was no time to take it steady despite being on dry tyres. As the sprint race came to an end, they finished Kurt P9 and Matt P10.

Race 2

As the lights went out on Sunday and the all riders fought for the dry line, despite the incorrect choice on tyres, both lads made their best effort to battle it out and collect as many points as they could. The final lap saw Kurt cross the line with a P10 along with Matt in P11.

The Race Team uses these EBC Brakes products:

X Series Floating Front Discs

The Wigley Brothers use EBC’s ultra-lightweight ‘X Series’ floating front discs on their racing motorcycles. Since their introduction, they have become one of the world’s best-selling, lightest and best-performing discs available for all modern sport bikes; available from EBC Brakes distributors around the world.

These motorcycle discs feature a unique and patented S-Drive button system which boasts square-sided rivets captured in square drive pockets on the rotor and hub, allowing the outer rotor blade to expand and contract freely under the heat of braking without suffering from rivet lock.

X and XC floating discs are the lightest you can buy. They will eliminate all your vibration problems and last longer than conventional rotors using round-button technology. Both designs further reduce weight by using only six drive buttons, dropping overall weight by up to 300 grams in the process.

GPFAX Sintered Road/Race Pads

To complement the discs, the brothers use EBC’s GPFAX pads. These race-only pads feature a material blend that has a higher friction and far better grip than any other brake pad on the market.

With a friction measurement between 0.6 and 0.7, they deliver the most amazing brake effect available. Zero brake fade is guaranteed and the heat stability of these brake pads is perfect, leaving the racer with high confidence and a product that can be used over numerous races.
