Irish motorcycle racer discusses successful 2019 season and his new equipment for 2020

Celebrated motorcycle road racer, Davy Morgan, is no stranger to EBC’s braking products. In fact, he’s used them on all of his motorcycles throughout his multi-decade competitive career, to huge success.

Davy has won races on three of the most famous international road race circuits. In 2004 on the TT Mountain Circuit, he won the Senior Manx Grand Prix, in 2005, the 250cc race at the North West 200, and in 2012, he took victory in the 250cc race at the world’s fastest road race: the Ulster Grand Prix at Dundrod.

He is also part of the fabled ‘125mph+ club’ at the Isle of Man TT – still not a mean feat for any privateer taking on this gruelling 37.75-mile course.

Davy uses EBC’s floating motorcycle rotors and GPFAX sintered race pads on all of his motorcycles.

We caught up with Davy as he was finishing up with the 2019 season and looking ahead to 2020’s action. Here’s what he had to say.

“I want to start by thanking EBC Brakes for their very much appreciated and continued support in previous years. Their top-quality brake pads gave our race bikes the stopping power on track during another solid year on the roads in Ireland, Isle of Man and UK.

“To continue to be one of the top privateer road racers in the UK requires top-quality products in my race bikes. This includes brake pads that face the ultimate challenge on the bumps and jumps on public roads of Ireland and the Isle of Man.

“The team is working towards 2020 (when the season eventually starts), with a new Supersport bike being introduced, as well as my BMW S 1000 RR Superstock, and, if budget allows, my 250cc GP Honda will make an appearance, too. These machines will again be raced at as many International and National Road Races as finances will allow.”

Products mentioned:

Floating MC Rotors

X and XC Floating MC rotors are the lightest rotors you can buy, they will eliminate all your vibration problems and last longer than conventional rotors using round button technology. Both designs further reduce weight by using only six drive buttons. This further reduces the unit weight by up to 300 grammes.

GPFAX Formula Sintered Race pads

The GPFAX Formula Sintered Race pads are a direct replacement of the GPFA series. This formula is even higher in friction and created specifically to be used only on asphalt surfaces such as those found in race track conditions. Because of the super performance that they provide, these brake pads are a growing favourite choice of superbike racers. Another benefit of the GPFAX sintered material is that it now has even better heat cycling ability allowing the brake pads to be raced, cooled, then raced again.
