Saturday testing was all about getting to know my brand-new MS Kart Chassis and running my engine in after a rebuild.
Sunday is race day and 5-minute practice means scrubbing my new tyres and making sure I am happy with my set up, I posted a disappointing 7th fastest time!
In heat 1 I started in P15 out of 19 karts, so I had a lot to do. The race got under way and I made a good start, only to come across a few karts spinning at turn 2. I avoided the karts but ended up on the grass which meant I was last! So, I got my foot down and worked on catching up! It was a good race which I eventually finished P11.
For heat 2 I started P6. I lost a couple of places at the start but raced hard to get myself back up to P6. Towards the end of the race I found myself in a 6-kart battle for P3. I had to settle for P4 at the flag, but there were just thousands between us.
I found myself starting in P6 again. I got a good start and was running 6th for half of the race. Working with my teammate I tried to catch the leaders when we got caught by Aiden Lyne and Gabriel Stilp. We battled for a few laps and Aiden got past me. I went straight back in and battled with him for a lap, but then water started coming of his kart and hitting my visor. I crossed the line in P8, and I was later promoted to P5 after 3 drivers in front were penalised for exceeding track limits.
I lined up in P3 with my teammate Bradley next to me. I got a great start and was in second place. Unfortunately, Bradley came past me going into Christmas. I held 3rd for another 2 laps then Bart Harrison came past. I drove my socks off and was in P4, 2 seconds clear of Jessica Edgar in P5. It stayed like this until the penultimate lap when I realised Jessica had caught me! I had to defend if I wanted to keep my P4 and I did just that, I crossed the line 4th.
Really happy with my performance, considering I am the youngest driver on the grid.
Thank you to my sponsors and thank you also to my team Jack and Jamie, to my driver coach Lucas Ellingham, and the JDR Family.
