EBC-equipped Neville Otter is competing in the 2024 HM Racing Clubman 600 class
Motorcycle racer, Neville Otter, is currently competing in the HM Racing Clubman 600 class of the NGRRC.
Otter uses EBC Brakes’ GPFAX brake pads and XC-Series floating discs on his Kawasaki ZX6-R race bike.
The first two rounds of the year were something of a rollercoaster for Otter, who is still recovering from an accident in the off-season. Round 3 took the roadshow to Pembrey Circuit in South Wales, where the racer saw a lot of promise with some great rides that put him in good stead for the rest of the season ahead.
Read how he got on in his own words below…
“After a journey in excess of eight hours due to closure of M4 near Cardiff, we arrived at Pembrey on the Thursday evening, in readiness for the following day’s testing.”
Testing
“Yet another troublesome test day, still finding it hard to re-gain my lost confidence, managing a 1:07.4 lap in one of the afternoon sessions – some 3+ seconds from my track PB.”
Saturday (Race Day)
“Out in qualifying session one soon after 9am, and set a disappointing 1:08.623 qualifying time, not that it mattered as it happens…”
Race 1 (Saturday)
“Due to an unfortunate incident during one of the later qualifying sessions, the schedule got pushed back by over an hour. And due to poor comms at the circuit, we hadn’t realised my race had been called, panic set in as we hastily got ready to go out. By the time I’d reached the assembly point, the rest of the riders where on their warm-up lap, and I was told to filter in after they’d passed and to start from the back of the grid P35!
“A decent start saw me pass three riders off the line, and a further four by the time we exited turn one!
“The rest of the race was uneventful, but I did improve my time to a 1:06.4, bring it home in P24, (P12 in class).”
Race 2 (Sunday)
“Starting P24 was an improvement from the previous day. Not such a good start off the line this time, but was hopeful of making places up at turn one again.
“Going on the outside (my preferred option), I got caught up in the mele and was forced wide onto a damp patch on the outside of the corner. Unperturbed, I manged to hold on to a decent position circa P17, achieving my fastest lap of the weekend on lap 2 (1:05.744), but unfortunately couldn’t hang on to those in front of me, and faded towards the end, losing a couple of places in the process.
“Finishing P19 & P9 in class, I was buoyed by the improvement.”
Race 3 (Sunday)
“Starting P19, I was hopeful of continued improvement, but a poor start and then running off the circuit on the exit of turn one put me in all but last position. We managed to pull a few places backs by the end of the race, finishing in P18 (P7 in class).
“In summary, an inconsistent weekend, but starting to feel more at one with the bike again, with a few more points added to the tally.
“With this weekend’s results, I have moved up to eighth position in the Clubman 600 championship, moving onto Brands Hatch in four weeks’ time, hoping that the improvement continues in Kent countryside!”
