Henry Wright and Kevin Glover achieved a class win and the fastest lap time in the latest round of the MSVT Trackday Championship

Using EBC Brakes Racing’s RP-X™ pads up front and EBC Brakes’ Bluestuff pads on the rear, Henry Wright and Kevin Glover of the Fiesta Clubracer outfit are enjoying back-to-back success as they compete in Class D of the 2022 MSVT Trackday Championship in their Ford Fiesta.

Following class wins in the two previous rounds at Cadwell Park and Anglesey, the duo had high hopes heading into the fifth round at Norfolk’s Snetteron, where they achieved another win that currently sees them top of their class and an impressive sixth in the overall series standings.

The team explain how the weekend unfolded in their own words.

Round 4 – Snetterton

“Sunny Snetterton was the venue for Round 4. The longer ‘300’ layout circuit was being used. Having been good to us in previous years, we hoped this wasn’t setting us up with a false sense of security!

“Qualifying took place early in the morning, meaning we were the first out on track for the day. A full holding area with 30 or so cars was ready to try and get a good start to the second half of the year.

We had new EBC Brakes Racing RP-X™ pads up front for this round, but that’s never an issue as we’ve found the bedding-in process to be fairly instant once they’ve had a first good heat cycle. The EBC Ultimax discs were showing limited wear after three rounds and were still going strong!

“Henry jumped in for the first half of the session, with a view to getting some good banker laps in and trying to find some clear air. Finding himself quicky up to speed and enjoying the balance of the car, he quickly got the times down to the point where we were sat on pole in class. One final push before handing over saw that pole time bettered to a point where pole was as good as secured!

“Kev jumped in for the second half, again quickly being at same pace and showing the car had plenty of performance on tap and that we were both happy with the balance. We ended up 1.5 seconds clear from the rest of the Class D runners and securing that all-important point! There were a couple of other class cars in between us and the second place Class D car of Jamie Jeffries for good measure.”

“A quick bleed of the brakes and check-over and the car as always was completed before setting off for the holding area once again. This time the temperature were a lot higher than the morning’s session. With performance in hand over our competition, the plan was to consolidate the lead, and try and get the maximum points possible from other, higher-class cars wherever we could.

“Henry was first up again, managing to retain the lead and settling into a comfortable pace keeping out of trouble. Lots of action higher up on the grid meant there was plenty of easy passes from cars miles off the track on the grass! The combo of the RP-X™ up front and Bluestuff pads in the rear proving once again their heat range versatility, and great pedal feel for rotating the car into the corner.

“A safety car more or less exactly halfway through the pit window prompted by a stranded Ginetta G40 on the inside of Russells Chicane started the normal mad rush for the pit lane, however some typical brilliance in decision making from Kev over the radio saying to stay out for another lap at race pace whilst catching the safety car before then pitting proved a decisive move! This effectively gave us a lap up on the rest of the class runners and a few of the higher Class C cars too.

“Kev again was quickly up to speed with view to securing the fastest lap and pocketing the extra point in the process. He spent most of his stint battling with two higher-class Fiestas, demonstrating the car’s potential in the corners and, more importantly, on the brakes! Crossing the line, we’d completed the Class D ‘grand slam’: pole, fastest lap, and the win!

“With three race wins on the trot, and a 20-point advantage in Class D, the last few rounds have pushed us up to the heady heights of 6th overall in the championship. Roll on Round 5 – Brands Hatch GP. We might even need to finally fit some new rear pads after two whole seasons for this one…”
