Robbie Hollis has had an exciting season of ups and downs in the SMC Championship and the Pirelli Masters. Here is his latest race report:
May 2nd was the second round of the SMC Championship (South Midland Centre). This was held at the brilliant natural track Toddington where I had a really good weekend with a 4th, 4th and 3rd finishing 3rd overall. I was closing on 2nd too but didn’t have enough time with the poor start I got.
May 8th was the second round of the Pirelli Masters at Brookthorpe. I’ve never rode here before but the tracklooked wicked and I was looking forward to it. Qualifying I sadly got a puncture on lap 2 so really struggled to set a fast lap, but managed to beat seven riders with a puncture so I was pleased. 1st race I was riding really well and sat 16th the whole race, until I got another front puncture, I was so disappointed as it would have been my best national result of the year. 2nd race I wanted to prove myself so I rode really hard and earned myself a 15th place out of 34 which was a good result for me and I was so happy!
On the second day the track was much wetter and difficult because the pros ripped the track up. In race one I crashed in the first turn but managed to work my way up to 21st, which was satisfactory. Race two – I secured an 18th place so I had my ups and downs that weekend.
